Abstract
In this talk, I will present an overview of my research activity in the field of systems and control methodologies applied to network control problems. Network control is a well-established and still developing research field aimed at solving control problems in complex systems (e.g., communication networks, energy networks, biology). The solution of these problems requires the application of methodologies coming from different fields, such as control theory, optimization, graph theory.
Among my research activities, I will present some results about dynamic bandwidth allocation and congestion control algorithms based on internal model control, connection admission control and routing algorithms based on dynamic programming and reinforcement learning, leader-following algorithms and algorithms for counteracting cyber-attacks in grid networks based on robust control theory, load balancing and selfish routing problems based on non-cooperative control theory.
An overview of on-going research activities and future developments will conclude the talk.

Antonio Pietrabissa is Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer, Control, and Management Engineering “Antonio Ruberti” (DIAG) of the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” where he received his degree in Electronics Engineering and his Ph.D. degree in Systems Engineering in 2000 and 2004, respectively, and where, since 2010, he has been teaching Automatic Control and Process Automation and, since 2019, Systems and Control Methods for Cyberphysical Security. In April 2017, he received the "Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale" (ASN) for Associate Professor in the scientific sector ING-INF/04-Automatica.
His main research focus is on the application of systems and control theory methodologies to the analysis and control of networks, with specific interest to the design of resource management protocols (e.g., connection admission control, congestion control, routing, and medium access control) for multimedia broadband satellite systems, wireless networks, and next-generation heterogeneous networks. He is the author of more than 40 journal papers and 70 conference papers and book chapters on these topics.
Since 2000, he has participated in 17 research projects funded by the European Union (EU) (1 as scientific coordinator of the EU project, 5 as scientific coordinator for the research partner), 2 projects funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), 2 projects funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and 3 national projects (1 as technical coordinator).
